Special Issue of Robotics and Autonomous Systems on
Semantic Knowledge in Robotics

There is a growing tendency to introduce high-level semantic knowledge into robotic systems. This tendency is visible in many areas of robotics, including mapping and localization, robotic vision, human-robot interaction, and the use of ontologies to improve inter-operability of robotic components. While the efforts to include semantic knowledge in these areas share many common questions and issues, work is often pursued in isolation within each area without being aware of the related achievements is other ones.

The aim of this special issue is to collect in a single place a collection of high-quality papers that deal with the creation, representation and use of semantic knowledge in autonomous robots, in many of its different forms.
